The talk will help farmers to get the most from their land and will feature a talk from grassland specialist, Charlie Morgan.

The River Ithon, an important spawning area for salmon, is currently failing quality targets under the European-wide Water Framework Directive.

Poultry farms in the Ithon catchment produce 16 per cent of Britain's free-range eggs, and run-off from these and other farms can cause serious pollution to the river if not managed correctly.

Ioan Williams of Environment Agency Wales said: "We have already visited a number of farms in the Ithon catchment and farmers have been really grateful for our advice.

"Muck management helps to protect the health of the River Ithon and also makes financial sense for poultry farmers. We hope this talk will help more farmers to improve management of their land and prevent run-off."

The talk will be taking place at 19:30 on 30 August at the Severn Arms in Penybont, Llandrindod Wells.
