Listeria Prevalence in RTE Meat, Poultry Declines
US - Listeria prevalence in all ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products was 0.28 in 2010, according to data released by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

This is down from 0.37 in 2009 and represents an 81 per cent decline since 2000 (1.45 to 0.28). This data includes information from all three FSIS sampling projects.
FSIS analysed 3,153 and 8,704 samples for L. monocytogenes in its ALLRTE and RTE001 sampling projects, respectively. Ten positive samples were observed in ALLRTE (0.32 per cent positive), and 24 positive samples were observed in the in RTE001 samples (0.28 per cent positive).
FSIS analysed 1,854 products for L. monocytogenes in the RLm sampling programme in CY 2010. The sampling results produced four positives samples, resulting in 0.22 per cent positive rate.
