Azerbaijan May Ban Poultry Imports from Iran

AZERBAIJAN - It will be forbidden for Azerbaijani businessmen to import poultry and poultry products from Iran if Azerbaijan, as a neighboring country, gets official information on revealing "bird flu" in the Iranian province of Mazandaran, or if Iran informs the International Office of Epizootics about the virus, spokesman for the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture Yolchu Hanveli told Trend.

He said that Azerbaijan has not received an official document on revealing "bird flu" in the Iranian province of Mazandaran.

"We can not say anything to businessmen, because we do not have any official document," representative of the State Veterinary Service said. "But, border and customs bodies are instructed not to import poultry and poultry products from Iran, Georgia and Turkey and Russia to Azerbaijan."

He said that Azerbaijan does not import poultry meat from Iran now.
