Pakistan Imports Poultry Vaccines Worth PKR6 Billion

PAKISTAN - Biotechnology has become the world's major industry to produce vaccines against livestock and Pakistan is importing poultry vaccines worth of six billion rupees (PKR) every year.

This was stated by the Vice Chancellor of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz while addressing a workshop titled "Molecular Diagnostics" organized by the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology.

According to Business Recorder, he said Pakistan could make progress by leaps and bounds by adopting new vista of research and developing sciences. He called upon pharmaceutical entrepreneurs and businessmen to make join hand with UVAS with its unique project Lahore Bio Technology Park.

Director of Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Professor Dr Masroor Elahi Baber said molecular diagnostics facilitated the detection and characterization of disease, drug response, identification of genetic modifiers and disease susceptibility.

He explained the importance of advancements in molecular diagnostics and its benefits to public health in the workshop.
