Two Newcastle Disease Outbreaks Reported in Israel

ISRAEL - The Israeli veterinary authorities have reported two new outbreaks of Newcastle disease in Hazafon and Hadarom.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 2 on Sunday, 13 November. According to the report, the affected population in Hazafon comprises 6-week-old broilers housed in 3 pens, while in Hadaron, 5-week-old broilers have been affected. In the latter case, the disease was diagnosed in 4 adjacent pens.

The report states that a total of 162000 broilers showed signs of susceptibility to the outbreak, out of which 35000 cases were identified. While 10000 deaths were recorded, 152000 birds were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been identified, and the epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
