Junior Minister Attacks the CAP

UK - British junior farm minister Lord Taylor of Holbeach has described existing agricultural policies as "unfit for purpose" and looked forward to the CAP reform negotiations as a "rare" chance to address issues.

Lord Taylor reiterated the UK government's position on wanting to keep P2 measures and cutting P1 measures, adding that the "UK must be a constructive contributor to CAP reform."

The DEFRA Under-Secretary of State For Food And Rural Affairs opened by advocated funding scientific research for agriculture out of CAP Pillar Two money. Speaking at the Westminster Food and Nutrition Forum on reforming the common Agricultural Policy, he urged the funding of "research and development for productive agriculture" out of P2 money, in addition to existing environmental and rural development measures.
