Farbest to Build New Turkey Plant

US - US turkey processor, Farbest Foods is to build a new plant in southwestern Indiana employing up to 600 workers in the next few years.

According to CBS News, Huntingburg-based Farbest Foods is expected to spend $69 million on the plant near Vincennes.

Farbest at present employs about 850 workers at plants in the nearby towns of Huntingburg and Dubois.

The family-owned company currently processes more than 10 million turkeys a year with about 170 contract growers in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.

The new plant is expected at first to have about 350 workers, with more being hired with the anticipated addition of a second shift, according to the CBS report.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Farbest up to $2.8 million in conditional tax credits and up to $200,000 in training grants as part of an incentive package.
