Call to Conduct Research on Poultry Diseases

PAKISTAN - The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has called upon University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to conduct research on diseases affecting poultry and update poultry farmers so that they may look after poultry well.

This consensus was developed by the PPA representatives at a meeting of disease control committee with the university’s academia held at UVAS on Tuesday. The meeting was co-chaired by National Disease Control committee convener Dr Mustafa Kamal.

The poultry association members said that poultry industry was being affected by contagious and fatal viral diseases like Newcastle disease, H9 avian influenza and infectious bursal disease. They said the diseases were perishing a good percentage of poultry and adversely affecting farmer’s income.

Dr Munir Ahmad Sahi maintained that new castle and avian influenza was persisting in extreme weathers twice in a year as per data collecting during last one decade. He said that poultry workers were lacking poultry management skills and house infrastructure was not proper.
