Estimates show that Brazil's production of turkey is higher than consumption in Brazil and as a result, there is no need for imports. However, consumption has been fast increasing over the years, and this has led to a reduction in exports.

Turkey meat consumption is also increasing in other South American countries, although not as rapidly as broiler meat consumption.

Total accumulated turkey meat exports from the US to South America rose four per cent during 2001-2011.
