OIE: LPAI Outbreak in Australia

AUSTRALIA - Routine surveillance has revealed low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) on a duck farm near Melbourne, according to Dr Mark Andrew Schipp, Chief Veterinary Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Australia.
The outbreak occurred on the 25 January at a farm in Melbourne, Victoria.
The outbreak affected a duck grower farm. Of the 24,500 susceptible all were destroyed.
According to the report, the epidemiological unit is a duck grower farm and associated breeding facility in the Melbourne area. Low pathogenic notifiable avian influenza subtype H5 was detected during routine surveillance from a healthy flock.
The source of the outbreak is unknown.
