According to president of the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef), Francisco Turra, Iraqi authorities found products exported by countries other than Brazil to have expiration date issues. As a result, the Iraqis decided to reassess their imports. That caused Brazilian poultry exports to drop, reports Brazil-Arab News Agency.

“They (the Iraqis) demanded an additional document because they wanted to step up inspection. Other industries [from other countries] exported products which had problems regarding their expiration dates. So they decided to re-evaluate products with which there were no problems. Proof of this is that Brazilian poultry imports were the first to be re-established,” said Mr Turra.

Mr Turra claimed that Iranian imports of Brazilian poultry, which had decreased as well, are going back to normal. “Theirs is an important market, but since August sales had dropped. They had told us everything was ok. Yesterday (19th), an Iranian representative told us there was an internal problem. Now, the flow should be re-established,” he said. Iran imports approximately 6,000 tonnes of poultry per month.
