Poultry Meat Value & Egg Production Up in 2011

CANADA - The value of poultry meat sales in 2011 rose by 14.1 per cent compared to a year ago.

According to Statistics Canada's Canadian Poultry and Egg Statistics for January to March 2012, Canadian farmers produced 1.2 million tonnes of poultry meat in 2011. Chicken, including stewing hens, rose 0.4 per cent from 2010.

Turkey meat production also increased 0.4 per cent from the previous year.

The value of egg sales in 2011 rose by as much as 9.2 per cent compared to a year earlier. Egg production rose 0.9 per cent from 2010.
