An A$8 million bid to create the adjoining farms one with eight sheds and the other with four has been proposed for rural land at Carrs Rd, Anakie, reports GeelongAdvertiser.

It follows a controversial application for a 339,000-chicken farm near Wallington, which was withdrawn after a vocal public campaign that saw more than 300 objections lodged with the City of Greater Geelong.

The Anakie proposal, released by the council for public comment, intends to reserve a portion of a 121-hectare property for the dual facilities.

Acting on behalf of the Cheltenham-based owner, town planner John McCaffrey states the farms will be managed separately, with each shed holding up to 50,000 birds.

"The two farms will be managed as separate self-contained operations with separate contracts with the chicken processor and able to be either sold or leased as separate operations," he said in planning documents.

It is proposed that the production cycle for the broiler operation will involve a growing period of seven to eight weeks for each batch of birds, enabling there to be five-and-a-half batches raised each year.

The broiler farms will have to comply with an environmental management plan, approved by the council, dealing with odour, noise, traffic and waste issues.
