US Egg Production up During October

US - Compared to the same month last year, egg production in October reached a total of 7.90 billion, indicating a two per cent rise.

The total number of layers during October 2012 also rose by one per cent, averaging 340 million, compared to last year. According to the USDA's latest Chickens and Eggs report, October egg production per 100 layers was 2,321 eggs, up slightly from October 2011.

Egg-type chicks hatched last month rose by 4 per cent compared to the same month last year. Eggs in incubators on 1 November 2012 dropped by 7 per cent compared to a year ago.

Broiler-type chicks hatched in October rose by 2 per cent compared to October 2011. Eggs in incubators 1 November 2012 was down one per cent from a year earlier.
