Indonesian Soybean Meal Imports Forecast to Rise

INDONESIA - It has been forecast that Indonesia is likely to import 3.1 million metric tons (MMT) of soybean meal (SBM) in MY 2011/2012. Imports are expected to increase slightly to 3.15MMT in MY 2012/2013.

Indonesia's domestic consumption of soybean meal is mainly determined by animal feed production. According to the USDA's Indonesia Oilseeds and Products Update for 2012, during MY 2011/2012, the country produced 13.573 MMT of animal feed, wherein poultry feed accounted for nearly 90 per cent of total production.

According to the latest figures, Indonesia imported 3.1 MMT of soybean meal in MY 2011/2012. Imports are expected to rise slightly to 3.15 MMT in MY 2012/2013.

Ending stocks of soybean meal stands at 544,000 MT in MY 2011/2012, and are expected to rise to 644,000 MT in MY 2012/2013.
