Newcastle Disease Spreads in Czech Republic

CZECH REPUBLIC - An outbreak of avian paramyxovirus has spread to Ostrava.

The outbreak of avian paramyxovirus (similar to Newcastle disease) was initially reported in a flock of pigeons in Stredocesky, last week.

The new outbreak was reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) by Dr Milan Malena, Chief Veterinary Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Prague.

In total, 50 pigeons have been destroyed, following the deaths of 40 birds. Movement control inside the country is ongoing.

The cause of the outbreak is unknown.
