Around 60 guests were shown around Mike Wilkinson’s newly built 16000 bird multi-tier Free Range laying house. Farmer automatic brought many experienced staff members with them over from Holland who were able to provide visitors with practical knowledge and information on how the systems were made and how they will work.

One system which captured a lot of attention was the multi-tier pullet rearing system which has been designed and modified for the UK to comply with Freedom foods standards. The idea behind the system is to allow pullet rearers to produce the ideal pullet for multi-tier laying houses. This system is very common in Holland, France and Germany but has yet to be introduced to the UK marketplace.

Event host Mike Wilkinson who sits on the NFU poultry board was happy with the interest the day created. "We had a good number of visitors even with the elements against us. There was a very positive and genuine interest in both the Multi-tier Laying and rearing system. I was excited by farmers' enthusiasm for pullets that are trained and reared to be more adapted for the multi-tier laying house!"
