Quebec, Catalonia Set up Animal Welfare R&D Network

CANADA & SPAIN - QCATnet is the name of the new R&D network on production animal welfare between the Institute of Agriculture and Food Research and Technology (IRTA), linked to the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fishery, Food, and the Natural Environment (DAAM) and the Dairy and Swine Research and Development Centre in Lennoxville (Canada), part of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

This network started from a project funded by the Agency for Administration of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) of the government of Catalonia, within the framework of the announcement of grants to incentivize transnational collaboration actions R&D between Catalonia and other regions or countries with strategic interest – CONES 2010.

Both institutions have animal welfare research teams with outstanding experience and prestige that from now on will work together on animal welfare R&D projects.

The aim of this animal welfare R&D network is to deepen into the already existing collaboration between both institutions, so in the future institutionalized cooperation mechanisms can be established to develop collaborative R&D projects on animal welfare at European level.
