Two March Workshops Teach Gamebird Management
US - Upcoming Mississippi State University workshops can help landowners or managers interested in attracting gamebirds learn how to encourage quail and turkey populations on their land.

The Gamebird Workshop: Managing Quail and Turkey in Mississippi is offered through the MSU Extension Service, MSU College of Forest Resources and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. It will be held twice at different locations.
On 1 March, those interested in managing their property for gamebirds can attend the workshop in Starkville from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MSU College of Forest Resources’ Tully Auditorium. On 8 March, the workshop will be held in Hattiesburg at the Forrest County Extension Office from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Event organizers have assembled upland gamebird wildlife biologists and managers to teach basic concepts in quail and turkey biology, habitat management, supplemental plantings and the effectiveness of supplementing a property with pen-reared quail. Other topics are cost-share programs related to gamebirds, supplemental feeding, and predator ecology and management.
