Aviagen Launches New Literature during 60th Anniversary at IPPE11 February 2013
US - Aviagen recently celebrated 60 years of participation at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta with CEO, Randall Ennis, accepting an award from the US Poultry & Egg Association on behalf of the company.
Aviagen first exhibited in 1948 at the Ansley Hotel, where the show originally began, when there were just 200 poultry men in attendance. The 2013 IPPE had 1,100 exhibitors and 21-plus acres of exhibition space. Today, the show is an international industry event that draws over 20 per cent of its attendees from more than 100 different countries.
Clear proof that times have changed and that the poultry industry is one that is always looking to move forward and improve were evident at the show. It is a dynamic world and Aviagen recognises that good regional technical expertise and support is the best commitment breeding companies can make for poultry producers to capture the genetic progress available and realize the incremental improvements to participate in a highly competitive global market.
As part of this, a big focus at IPPE was the launch of new Parent Stock Handbooks for the Arbor Acres, Indian River and Ross brands. Indeed, one significant change was in the volume of technical information available and the user friendly layout to quickly find the right hints, tips and advice.
Internal and external specialists from areas of hatchery, nutrition, veterinary science, lighting and ventilation were involved in the writing of the PS Management Handbooks and helped develop the information.
The Handbooks each contain nine sections focusing on management (both early and to depletion), broiler breeder growth, physical condition of the birds, care of hatching eggs, environmental requirements, nutrition, health and biosecurity.
These Handbooks are complemented by new Parent Stock Nutrition Specifications. With feed costs putting pressure on the industry the world over, Aviagen has been focusing heavily on Feed Conversion Ratio in recent years with further, significant improvements still expected, something that was very popular with visitors to the Aviagen stand at IPPE. Revised Broiler Nutrition Specifications will be published in Spring 2013.
