Mexico Declared Free of Newcastle Disease

MEXICO - Mexico City was the last federal district to be eradicated against Newcastle disease and as a result, the country will soon acquire a disease-free status.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) published a document in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF) stating which federal districts have been declared free of Newcastle disease.

Samples taken from various commercial and backyard poultry farms have revealed the absence of the virus causing the disease.

To remain free of the disease, application of several sanitary measures for diagnosis, prevention, control, surveillance, movement control has been advised.
