OIE Reports LPAI at Poultry Farm in North Rhine-Westphalia

GERMANY - The German veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza at a poultry farm located in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 2 on 22 March 2013. The LPAI outbreaks date back to December 2012.

A total of 22 birds were found susceptible, out of which one case was reported. The affected bird was reported dead. The remaining 21 birds were destroyed.

According to the OIE, H5 and H7 avian influenza in its low pathogenic form in poultry is a notifiable disease as per Chapter 10.4. on avian influenza of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code (2012).

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
