Newcastle Disease Confirmed in Libya

LIBYA - An outbreak of Newcastle disease has been reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The outbreak occured on a farm in Tripoli, the capital of Libya.

The outbreak has affected backyard chickens, broilers, layers and peacocks.

In total, 120,000 cases have been recorded, resulting in 40,000 deaths.

Movement control inside the country is ongoing, along with screening, disinfection of the infected premises and dipping or spraying.

Affected animals are being treated with anitibiotics.
