More LPAI Reported in Taiwan
TAIWAN - The Taiwanese veterinary authorities have reported a further outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI), serotype H5N2, at a poultry farm in P'eng-hu, affecting broilers (sentinel chicken).

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 7 on 3 June 2013. The LPAI outbreaks have been continuing since November 2012.
A total of 13 broilers showed signs of susceptibility, out of which one case was reported. All 13 birds were destroyed.
Sentinel chickens were placed on the H5N2 infected native chicken farm reported in the follow-up report No. 2 on 4 January 2013.
The farm was depopulated previously by the local disease control centre (LDCC). In order to restock the chickens in the same premises, the farmer applied to LDCC for sentinel chickens test.
The results showed one chicken with positive reaction to H5N2 subtype virus and the virus was defined as low pathogenic by national laboratory.
Cleaning and disinfection were implemented in the farm which was emptied for 21 days.
The source of the outbreak(s) remains inconclusive.
