OIE Reports HPAI Outbreak in Jalisco

MEXICO - The Mexican veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of H7N3 highly pathogenic avian influenza at a layer farm located in Jalisco.

The World Organisation for Animal Health received a ninth follow-up report on Monday, 12 August.

A new outbreak has been detected in a layer farm in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco.

The population involved is 359,343 birds, which were found susceptible to the HPAI virus, serotype H7N3.

Control measures such as quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning, disinfection of infected premises/establishments and vaccination in response to the outbreak(s) - measure previously applied are still on-going, as well as epidemiological surveillance at national level.

Contact with wild bird species is reportedly the main cause of the outbreaks.
