The listing reflects the growing consumer trend towards buying quality local produce and the public attaching greater importance to animal welfare.

With Tesco Express stores designed to give shoppers greater convenience, the listing of James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs in so many stores also helps tackles the perception that free-range eggs are notably more expensive than caged eggs. Research by James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs – highlighted in its recent successful '555’ campaign – showed that it would cost consumers just £5.55 a year to make the switch from caged to free-range eggs.

The listing will also provide a great boost to Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA), to which the Company donates 1p per every dozen of its eggs sold. As such, going on sale in an extra 95 stores should raise an extra £3,000 per year for the YAA, a vital service that saves hundreds of lives every year.

James Potter said: "This is obviously great news for the business and for the profile of our ever-growing brand.

"It’s clear that Tesco is very much in tune with the current consumer trend – probably sparked, in part, as a result of the Horsemeat Scandal – towards buying local, quality produce, hence the decision to list us in so many Yorkshire stores."

James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs is by some distance Yorkshire’s largest producer of free-range only eggs. The company has seen the volume of free-range eggs it handles increase by 250 per cent in the past five years, with significant investment going into hen housing and a state of the art crack detection system, which can monitor 130,000 eggs per hour. The company has only ever produced free range eggs and continues to focus on producing the highest quality free range eggs by combining traditional animal husbandry with continued innovation.

James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs is also the key corporate sponsor for the inaugural Yorkshire Marathon, taking place in York on Sunday 20th October 2013.
