OIE Reports Another HPAI Outbreak in Emilia-Romagna

ITALY - The Italian veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a commercial layer farm in Bologna located in Emilia-Romagna.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 3 on 28 August.

According to the report, the positivity regards a commercial layer hens farm located in the protection zone established around the 2nd outbreak in Mordano Municipality.

A total of 121,705 birds were found susceptible, out of which 27,000 cases were reported. The health authorities reported a total of 364 deaths. No birds were destroyed.

The OIE reports that the last testing on 23 August was negative and starting from 26 August abnormal mortality was detected. The National Reference Laboratory in Padova has confirmed H7 at RT-PCR. The farm is already located in the restriction zones and depopulation will be carried out.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
