Brazilian Egg Shipments Plummet

19 September 2013

BRAZIL – Egg exports have fallen by more than half over the January to August period, the Brazilian Poultry Association has confirmed.

Egg shipments up until the end of August reached 7,800 tons, a result 53.7 per cent lower compared to the 17,000 tons shipped in the same period last year.

Of these, 6,900 tons were fresh eggs with processed eggs making up 971 tons.

The drop was closely followed by a 45.5 per cent reduction in sales revenue, at reals 14.4 million.

Africa remains the main buyer of fresh eggs, buying 3,700 tons with the Middle East following (2,600 tons). America (600 tons) and Asia (600 tons) are third and fourth.

The main processed, dehydrated egg product exported was white powder.
