The announcement was made after the centre received notifications of an incident of H7 avian influenza in a backyard flock in Alentejo, and a H5N3 outbreak on a poultry farm in Baden-Wurttemburg.

About 120 tonnes and 6,700 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Portugal and Germany, were imported into Hong Kong from January to October.

An import ban on the same items from Thuringen, Germany, has been in effect since last month and is still in force.

The centre will liaise with Portuguese and German authorities over the issue, and closely monitor the situation.
