Unhygienic Fresh Chicken Products Destroyed23 December 2013
SAUDI ARABIA - The Jeddah Municipality and police destroyed at the weekend 10,000 fresh chicken products in a bid to check the sale of foodstuffs unfit for human consumption.
The municipality sent a team to Briman in East Jeddah where it raided a large facility which was operating in unhygienic conditions, Arab News reports.
According to Fahd Al-Mutairi, president of Briman Municipal Council, the facility was also operating without a license from the municipality which is contrary to standard health procedures.
He said that the inspection team had found 15,000 fresh chicken products of which 10,000 were packed and ready for distribution. The inspection team seized the products and destroyed them on the spot.
Mr Al-Mutairi also said that officials found labels of four different brands and stickers displaying various expiration dates.
He said 40 workers were engaged by the facility. All but two fled during the raid. The detained employees are now in the custody of Samer police station.
He said the municipality seized 13 vans intended for the transportation and distribution of the meat to supermarkets. The municipality also seized two generators.
Mr Al-Mutairi said the municipality will raze the entire building to the ground as it is built and is being operated in violation of the system for such facilities. He added that the municipality is currently processing a case of commercial fraud against the facility.ThePoultrySite News Desk
