The cheque was presented by Sherman Miller, chief operating officer for Cal-Maine Foods and USPoultry board member, to Dr Mary Beck, head of the Poultry Science Department at Mississippi State University. Mark Leggett, president of the Mississippi Poultry Association, assisted in the presentation.

"Mississippi State's Poultry Science Department is very appreciative of the recruiting funds provided by the USPoultry Foundation and delivered by Sherman Miller of Cal-Maine Foods. We're ramping up our recruiting activities through personal visits to high schools and junior colleges and by bringing in more prospective students to campus. We're also upgrading our printed recruiting materials that describe our outstanding curriculum and facilities. USPoultry funds are critical to our ability to produce high quality materials and to enable us to travel to reach out personally to prospective students," remarked Dr Beck.

The USPoultry Foundation board recently approved student recruiting grants totaling more than $183,000 to the six US universities with poultry science departments and 14 other institutions with industry related programmes. The Foundation provides annual recruiting funds to colleges and universities to attract students to their poultry programmes.
