Poultry Prices to Drop in Two Weeks, Says Poultry Association

16 January 2014

PAKISTAN - The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) yesterday (14 January) announced that the current price hike is only temporary due to short supply, adding that prices would come down within two weeks.

"The price of poultry has gone up due to high demand and short supply as farmers have reduced production for losses and the situation would improve within 10-15 days time," Dr Muhammad Aslam, Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) told APP.

According to Business Recorder, Dr Aslam said that 30 per cent of the poultry farms are closed as farmers are not getting due prices for their products.

The PPA chairman said that due to ban on exports of poultry products, the farmers have been unable to enhance production with full capacity and have also not been getting proper prices.

He further said that due to the marriage season, demand for poultry production has also increased and that was also one of the reasons for increase in the prices of poultry products.

He added that at poultry farms, chicken is available for Rs130 per kilogram but due to transportation costs, the prices have shot up to Rs165 per kilogram.

"If the government allows export of poultry products, the farmers would enhance their production and due to surplus production in the country, the rate of poultry products would also be reduced," he observed.
