The News reports that prices, however, issued by the Poultry Association of Pakistan (PPA) and the government of Sindh were comparatively lower.

A PPA spokesman said that the price of the poultry has just increased by Rs10 per kilogram in the retail market in the last couple of days to Rs335 per kilogram.

The commissioner of Karachi and controller general of the Prices Division Karachi will keep poultry rates unchanged at Rs240 per kilogram till 22 January.

The spokesman said that the increase in price by the association was made in accordance with the surge in the demand for chicken.

“The wedding season is on its peak these days and almost all the wedding halls are full,” he said, adding that the demand for chicken went up during wedding season.

A retailer said that the demand for the poultry was much higher than the supply, as the city is experiencing chilly weather.

“The intensified cold has increased the demand for chicken consumption,” he said.
