“Well, you are your own brand. Remember, either you define yourself as a brand in the professional arena, or your competitor will,” Mr Lovette said.

He was speaking to students at the annual program, held in conjunction with the 2014 International Production & Processing Expo in Atlanta.

Mr Lovette, an alumnus of the College Student Career Program over 30 years ago, provided an insightful and strategic guide to help students take control of their careers as they enter the professional arena. He also provided some powerful statistics on the global protein trade and the economic impact the poultry industry continues to have in the world economy.

Mr Lovette revealed how emerging economies’ necessity for chicken will continue to transform the industry and, most importantly, each student’s leadership role.

“I think one of the problems in our culture is that we have become a ‘me’ society. Once I figured out that it was not about me and learned to listen, I became a better leader,” Mr Lovette advised the students.

Additionally, he listed having a vision for oneself, being persistent and understanding the importance of communication within teams as several key leadership traits during his presentation.

The College Student Career Program provides undergraduate and graduate students from colleges and universities across the nation and internationally , in multiple disciplines, with the opportunity to interview for jobs and internships with industry and allied companies.

These students can also visit the exhibit floor to complement their studies and to see and experience the latest technology and newest innovations in today's poultry and egg production and processing operations.
