According to Business Recorder, Chairman of Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA), Dr Hassan Sarosh told Associated Press of Pakistan that the recent hike in poultry products prices was temporary and it would come down as soon as the weather warms up and the demand/supply situation becomes balanced.

He said the poultry industry suffered a lot during the last year and a half due to over-production and said that farmers were facing a loss of PKR20 to PKR30 per kg as the cost of production was Rs 120 and the retail price of chicken was about PKR90 to PKR95 per kg.

"Due to this reason, most of the farmers closed down their poultry farms resulting in shortage of the product," he said, adding that due to less supply and more demand the prices went up.

But now, he said as the farmers are again coming back into the industry, production is likely to increase and the problem of demand and supply should be resolved so prices can again come to the normal range.

Commenting on egg prices, Dr Hassan said that the winter season has prolonged due to recent rains, which has resulted in high demand of eggs.
