Low-pathogenic Bird Flu in Dutch Flock

THE NETHERLANDS - A poultry flock in Gelderland in the centre of the country has tested positive for the H5N2 subtype of the virus.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 14 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

According to the report, a flock of 10,541 birds in Bruchem in the province of Gelderland tested positive for the low-pathogenic form of the H5N2 subtype of the virus on 12 March. The whole flock has been destroyed.

On 13 March 2014, a 1-km protection zone was established, in which there are eight other premises with poultry. All premises within the one-km zone are screened.
