Taiwan Culls Poultry to Prevent Spread of H5N3 Bird Flu

10 April 2014

TAIWAN - The Taiwanese veterinary authorities have reported that all poultry within the affected farms were slaughtered after they tested negative for H5/H7 viruses.

According to follow-up report no. 2 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), an intensified surveillance in accordance with the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code on poultry farms around the affected farms was carried out for at least three months.

Clinical and epidemiological investigations and the results of surveillance demonstrated no new notifiable avian influenza case was observed or detected.

According to the aforementioned information, the H5N3 low pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks reported on 2 August 2013 and on 3 December 2013 are resolved.

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive to date.
