Israel Reports 13 New Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease

ISRAEL - There are reports of 13 outbreaks of Newcastle disease in poultry across the country over the last month, involving more than a quarter of a million birds.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report no. 4 dated 27 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report outlines 13 outbreaks of Newcastle disease in the regions of Hazafon and Hadarom since 31 March involving a total of 254,110 poultry of various types - broilers, layers, pullets, turkeys, pigeons and ornamental birds. In all, 12,740 birds are estimated to have showed symptoms, 6,100 died and 148,510 have been destroyed.

The usual eradication methods are being applied: stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning and disinfection of infected premises/establishment. Vaccination is being carried out in response to the outbreaks.
