According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday, no deaths had been reported.

In total 60 people, a mix of men, women and children, have been infected across 23 states.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that officials have linked the outbreak to pet chicks and ducklings sold as pets around the Easter holiday from Mount Healthy Hatcheries as the source of the birds.

Mount Health Hatchery was associated with Salmonella Infantis and Salmonella Newport outbreaks in 2012 and 2013.

The worst infected states are Ohio and Kentucky, both with six cases.
