Newcastle Disease Outbreak in Israeli Farm Affects Broilers

ISRAEL - The Israeli veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease at a poultry farm in Hazafon.

According to follow-up report no. 6 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Sunday, 9 June, 5-week-old broilers have been affected as a result of the outbreak.

A total of 5500 broilers showed signs of susceptibility, out of which 1350 cases were reported. A total of 550 deaths have been reported and 4950 birds have been destroyed.

Control measure such as stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning and disinfection of infected premises/establishments have been applied. Poultry will also be receive vaccination in response to the outbreaks. However, none of the affected birds have received treatment.

The source of the outbreaks has still not yet been determined.
