South African Ostriches Found with Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza

SOUTH AFRICA - There has been one new outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza detected in South Africa.

On the 19 August on a commercial ostrich farm, 28 birds out of 45 were found infected with the disease.

None of the birds have been destroyed.

Control measure have been put in place to prevent the spread of virus including quarantine, movement control inside the country and screening.

The source of the outbreak is still unknown.
