ABC reports that this Sunday, market gardeners Provenance Growers are asking customers at the Hobart Farm Gate market to sign a petition urging the state government to amend the laws.

In November new national egg legislation comes into force which sets out food security laws, inspection fees and egg stamping regulations.

Paulette Whitney from Provenance Growers says they petitioned the previous government to exercise their discretion as to the number of birds that can be kept before the legislation applies.

Ms Whitney says they are still uncertain how the Liberal government intends applying the regulations.
