Poultry Industry Weighs in on Labour Policy
NEW ZEALAND - The poultry industry says abolishing factory farming would mean a hike in egg and chicken prices for the consumer.Yahoo! New Zealand reports that the Labour Party is planning to stamp out intensive farming practices with its new animal cruelty policy.
Affecting the pork industry first with new legislation planned for 2016, battery hen farming would be targeted after that.
Poultry Industry Association executive director Michael Brooks says the policy is very vague, but it would definitely make an impact.
"Any change would certainly come at a cost to consumers. Their scrambled eggs and their roast chicken would certainly be more expensive."
