According to the minister, these are the industries that can replace imports. Mr Fyodorov explained that the end of subsidies for poultry meat in 2014 and for pork in 2016 made this extension a necessity.

"Adjustments to the government program have proposed extending the subsidies until 2018," he said, in asking for support of this proposal.

In early August, Russia restricted food imports from countries that imposed sanctions against it, i.e., the United States, EU member states, Canada, Australia, and Norway.

The ban included beef, pork, poultry, sausages, fish, vegetables, fruit, dairy, and some other products. Russian agricultural enterprises intend to make up for the shortage of goods by increasing their production.
