Darrell Glaser, turkey producer and cattle rancher in Rogers, Texas, is a finalist in the Next Faces of Farming & Ranching competition. The competition is sponsored by the US Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) to recognise farms and ranches that best exemplify agriculture. The Bar G Ranch, owned by Darrell and Shannon Glaser, is also a US Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) 2014 Family Farm Environmental Excellence Award Winner.

The Glaser family has operated their farm for more than 100 years. The farm consists of 500 acres, used to grow turkeys for Cargill Turkey Production, in addition to raising cattle. The farm represents the leading edge of environmental conservation. Best practices were implemented to achieve the highest standards of environmental management and animal welfare. A video highlighting the Glaser farm can be viewed on USPOULTRY’s You Tube page.

“We encourage our members to support Darrell and Bar G Ranch in this competition,” said John Starkey, USPOULTRY president. “We congratulate the family as one of our environmental excellence award winners and now as a finalist for USFRA’s Next Faces of Farming & Ranching.”

A combination of public votes and USFRA judges’ scores will determine the winners, who will be announced on 12 November, during a press conference at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting Convention (NAFB) in Kansas City, Missouri. Winners will serve in multiple high-visibility roles on behalf of USFRA, participating in a number of activities including national media interviews, advertising and public appearances. They will also receive professional media/speaker training and full support from USFRA through their yearlong tenure.

US Farmers & Ranchers Alliance consists of more than 80 farmer- and rancher-led organisations and agricultural partners representing virtually all aspects of agriculture, working to engage in dialogue with consumers who have questions about how today’s food is grown and raised. USFRA is committed to continuous improvement and supporting US farmers and ranchers efforts to increase confidence and trust in today’s agriculture. USPOULTRY is charter member of the organization, and represents the poultry industry on the Board of Directors.

The competition period for the 'Next Faces of Farming & Ranching' is open until 2 November. Visit the Faces of Farming & Ranching online voting page on Facebook to vote for Darrell today!
