Telengana CM Inaugurates Poultry India 2014

INDIA - Asia’s largest poultry expo was inaugurated by the newly created state, Telangana chief minister, Chandrasekhar Rao at Hitec Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad on 26 November, 2014.

The event has been recognised as an important forum for poultry industry, feed equipments, technology, egg farming, poultry nutrition, animal health and international poultry production.

Speaking while inaugurating the poultry show, Mr Rao said that Telangana is the only state in the country that has given poultry sector an agriculture status.

"I would like to urge the central government to come out with the national policy and provide the sector the agriculture tag," Rao stressed.

Indian minister of state for agriculture, Sanjeev Balyan was also present at the inaugural ceremony. The minister on the occasion released the show directory.

CM also pointed out the US is pumping chicken legs in the country that has impacting our poultry farmers that need to be stopped and government needs to look in the matter seriously.

Mr Rao urged the farmers to take benefits of the state government policies and produce more eggs and poultry to feed the growing appetite of the country.

As per an estimate, Indian chicken and egg market is a $13billion industry and provides employment to over 6.5 million people.

The industry also has a feed grain requirement of 26.5 million tonnes and has an egg production of 80 billion with an annual consumption of 65 eggs per day.

Chicken annual production is currently pegged at 5.5 million tonnes with an per head consumption of 4.5 kg.

"Indian poultry industry has been growing at 8-10 per cent annually for the last two decades, maturing from a backward activity to integrated business.

"The demand for poultry products has been growing steadily on the back of favorable socio-economic factors like healthy gross domestic product (GDP) growth, rising purchasing power, changing food habits and increasing urbanisation.

"Our country’s economic parameters favour the production of eggs, broiler meat and dairy products at a very competitive price," Chakradhar Rao, president, Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) said.

It was also noted that two thirds of the total poultry production is in South India due to favourable climatic conditions, availability of raw materials and ample work force.

Over 220 exhibitors across the globe are participating in the event that will be held from 26 - 28 November, 2014.

The event organised by IPEMA will showcase latest advances in poultry research, health and nutrition, science and technology like cages and feed milling importance.

Countries include US, South Africa, China, Germany, Spain, Italy, Israel, Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, Ukarine and Netherlands.
