Viet Nam Reports New Outbreak of Avian Flu

VIET NAM - One new outbreak of H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza has been reported in a village poultry flock in the far south of the country.

The veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No.4 dated 3 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It mentions one outbreak of avian flu in a village flock at Khanh Hoi in Ca Mau province. Starting on 30 January, it killed 260 of the flock of 824 birds. The remaining 564 birds have been destroyed.

The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of an H5 subtype has been identified.
