Cherkizovo Presses on with Tambov Turkey Project

RUSSIA - Russian integrated meat and poultry processor Cherkizovo has just seen the delivery of the initial batch of hatchery, feed mill and slaughterhouse equipment for its Tambov Turkey plant.

The €40 million investment is the first stage of the development at the plant that includes air-conditioning systems, machine tools, setters and other modern equipment for the poultry industry from Spain, Italy, Denmark and Belgium.

It is expected that the installation of the purpose-built equipment will begin next month.

Tambov turkey is a joint Russian-Spanish venture following th4 collaboration signed in 2012 between Cherkizovo, Grupo Fuertes and the administration of the Tambov region.

The project in the Pervomaisky district is for a vertically integrated complex for the production of turkey meat and it is planned for completion before the end of 2015.

The complex has an incubator capacity of 5.9 million eggs per year, feed mill production capacity of 150,000 tonnes of feed per year and storage capacity of 120,000 tonnes of grain.

The processing plant will have a production capacity "of more than 40,000 tonnes of turkey meat per year in carcase weight.
