New Bird Flu Outbreak in Palestinian Poultry
PALESTINIAN TERRITORY - A new outbreak of H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza has been reported in a mature layer flock of 4,200 birds on the western edge of the West Bank.

By: Dated 20 February, Follow-up Report No.3 from the Palestinian veterinary authority to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reports one new outbreak of high-path avian flu in domestic poultry.
The outbreak began on 15 February at Qaqeliq in the West Bank on a farm with 4,200 19-month-old laying hens, 100 of which died.
Fomites are thought to be the source of infection, and the usual control measures have been put in place.
The virus is confirmed as the H5 type but the N-type is 'pending'. Previous outbreaks in the country have been confirmed as caused by the H5N1 variant.
