Vice chairman representing the Staunton River Magisterial District, Elton Blackstock queried the interest Pittsylvania locals would have for job offered by a vertically integrated complex, reports GoDanRiver.

This is despite a feasibility forecasting the generation of $476 million and 1,200 jobs.

But he said: “I see this as a way to supplement that income that the tobacco farmers have lost.”

Plans include a hatchery, feed mill and processing plant.

Supervisor Jessie Barksdale welcomed the study’s findings, voicing support for a complex in the county.

“I would support it because we don’t have a whole lot of projects lined up or businesses beating down the door to come here,” said Mrs Barksdale. “I think it’s worth a try.”

“It looks like we have the infrastructure and the land, that’s what makes it a perfect fit.”
